Starts off slow, with one of my favorite songs of 2009, and gradually builds enough steam to get your body moving. There are some beautiful tracks on this one. . . I'm especially loving the 4-7 span. If you have a chance, check out the LCD Soundsystem video for "Bye Bye Bayou" as it's the BEST cable access-esque video ever produced. Enjoy!!

I recently inherited a whole crate of records from my cousins who are slightly older than me (translation: a LOT of 80s Pop). I decided to pay them tribute by making a tape of the best tracks I inherited.

I wanted to make a lo-fi/punk themed mixtape for a friend. I wanted a happy, hyper feeling at the start, that gets mellower and muggier by the second side. Like drinking followed by a hangover!

In this weird way I feel like I HAD to make this cd. While my bf and I were together I kept trying to make a mix for him that consisted of songs I really liked for their vocalists/lyrics/emotions. I wanted a further theme besides just that, but I could never find one that fit perfectly, and what I came up with always felt forced or consisted of too many songs that I felt were so-so. After we broke up, I looked at all the failed remains of the playlists I had started and I realized that almost every song I really LIKED out of those was a break-up song and that I already had everything picked out- it was just scattered. After that it came together effortlessly. The structure basically follows the recovery pattern I followed after the breakup. It goes from complete and utter despair and confusion (Don't Leave Me Now), to sorrow and longing (the entire middle of the cd), to a quiet sort of acceptance of what is inevitable (April Come She Will), and finally to an isolation of emotion and fierce joy and release (Empty). Usually I really mix up my songs a lot, but this time I tried to group similar sounding songs together, but still gradually bring the mood up and down. The mood does get cheerier as the cd progresses. If there's a way, I will also include lyrics partially because they reflect the general feeling to each section and partially because they're awesome. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.viewcustom&friendId=24233275&blogId=537502230&swapped=true ^ A link to the lyrics

A CD of my summer jamz for my new homie Lorin. It's a good mix of my personal summer classics, my new jams, and music we heard the last time he was in town.

There comes a time when you just have to get back on that horse. And that's just what I did. To quote Rivers Cuomo: "…And I don't wanna be an old man anymore It's been a year or two since I was out on the floor Shakin' booty, makin' sweet love all the night It's time I got back to the Good Life."

This is one of those token "sUmMeR 2010!" playlists, but I guess it's not especially summery. It's just some indie music I've been listening to with some random fun tracks tossed in.

OMBLive was a radio show that lasted from May 2005 to October 2006. This list of songs are considered by the hosts as the most enjoyable, memorable and significant throughout the tenure of the show. Yes, this is very self-obsessed, but I'm not sharing my Art of the Mix account with anyone else, so I have no choice but to make it self-obsessed. Enjoy.

A mix I made for a friend for a sunny day drive. Mainly short (under 3 minutes) songs, with the occasional lengthy one thrown in for good measure. The title is from a lyric in The Low Anthem's song OMGCG.

This is another old mix that I, somehow, never got around to uploading. I made it as a Christmas/birthday present for someone special back in 2007. Wow! That seems so long ago. It was strange to listen to this at the start of the summer; it definitely has a winter feel to it, even the cover design. "..we will stumble home together as we did the night before." Giving credit where credit is due: I "borrowed" the title from another mix I found here on AOTM.

What's a guy to do when things aren't going his way?? Get outta dodge!! After the roller coaster month of September, I took an opportunity to help out a new club in Brooklyn for 3 weeks, solving my unemployment problem, and affording me some time with old friends and a new puppy. This mix flows through two distinct parts. The opening, hip-pop tracks represent the emotion of being back in NYC, starting over from scratch, ready for anything. The last half is the internal dialogue of my mind trying to let go of the past. Enjoy!!

I made this CD for warming up at roller derby practice - we've used the first three songs so far and I think it worked quite nicely. I especially enjoyed skating to Death Disco - I really want to use Psyche Out, that's always the song that gets me going when I'm running! It's aggressive and the heavy beat really makes me push it - should have put it earlier on the CD, but I was in a rush when I made this one, I had been asked to make a mix and didn't have a whole lot of time to think about it. Looking at it now I wish there are other songs I put on it!

I graduated high school in 2002, and our graduation song was 'Beautiful Day' by U2. I thought it shouldhave been a song from that year, rather than just one that spelled out the teacher's reaction to us leaving. Anyway, here's 12 songs that I should've suggested. 12. See? Like Year 12... Okay, you get the idea.
