Comment:

Most creative mash-up of the year goes to Girl Talk, hands down.

One 2007 release that really spoke to me was the Nick Drake collection "Family Tree." It's a clutch of home recordings from before his first album, and members of his family accompany him on some of the songs, including "All My Trials," in which he duets with his sister. The lo-fi nature heightens the intimacy of the songs, and the fact he's primarily singing other people's songs provides insight into his influences and how he interprets others' work. I'm sure the fact that my family, too, had home recording sessions when I was young heightened my fondness for this collection, but it's really a touching CD.
